2nd week of school

Well, every class I have has done a lab almost every day. Some classes have done two in one day!

Every chemistry student I have, is now required to write a lab report on every lab, and they have the modern option of emailing it to me!

Due to the international make-up of my first class today, we were making foldables about solids/liquid/gases and we learned to write solid liquid and gas, in spanish, chinese and arabic! I was much more excited about this then my students were, partly on purpose. See, its good to model the behavior that 'learning' is exciting, whether I will ever use that knowledge, was not important, I expressed I was excited because I got to learn something new!

We often joke around about where products are made, because its common to have things made abroad, and more common is becoming Mexico (NAFTA?). So I loaned a student a new pen, it didn't work. We looked it was made in Mexico, so the next pen I loaned was made in India, it worked. I soaked the tip in alcohol of the mexican pen, tryin got get it "drunk" so it would write. It did, at about the same time my girl with the indian pen misplaced it, so I had to give her back the Mexicna pen. She's complaining about the multilingual writing. I told her, "Just think, your writing chinese with a mexican pen in an American school - that's cool!"

Ok, if you near my age bracket, the group that listen to the Cure and 'nobody understands us', usually had black fingernails, regardless of gender...they were the Goths in the 90's and bought all their stuff at HotTopic. I can't remember what we called them in the 80's, but they were there. They have gotten slightly away from the 'Goth' look, and changed their name to EMO, or EMOs for plural. The EMOtional group, still infatuated with black, death, society doesn't understand them, still shops at HotTopic....what did we call them in the 80's, before HotTopic! Were they just a variant of the NewWave crowd? Oh - the GOTH people are stil around, they are the ones who want to be vampires, or play Satanist, or BDSM. They are all ages, becuase the clothes are expensive.

update: I went to Wikipedia to educate myself, and there is another group that is like the EMO and the are the SCENE kids. Here what WIKI says: Members of the scene subculture are very often confused with members of the emo subculture. This is largely due to the mainstream's confusion about youth subcultures. Emos like to wear clothing styles with their own touches. Scene kids also like black, but will wear it with neon colors and will mis-match clothing. They also like accesories such as beads, barretts, headbands and wide belts. Emo hair is usually died one color, while scene kids will have multicolored hair. The scene haircut is sometimes choppy, or is similar to that worn by a little child.

Which group is getting the tattoos and piercings, I don't know, so if someone wants to educate on that groups names, that would be nice!
