Ok, many of my fellow HISD people just bought our laptops. The first thing you need to do is upgrade your memory by adding a 256 megabyte module. Regardless of what the salesperson says - you want a 256MB PC133 SODIMM module. Its around $60. They'll try and tell you you need a PC100 thats closer to $100, but the above works fine! If you go to Fry's, ask for part # 3520414.
If you want to invest in your system, the next item I would by is a PC-card that plugs into side socket (near floppy) that is a combo USB 2.0 and Firewire. I bought two seperate cards, but a combo would be more elegant! Now you'll have all the high speed ports you might need in future for portable drives, digital cameras, scanners, card readers, ect. You should be able to get onet for around $50. The USB built into the laptop is the older-slower one!
If you know how to Ebay, then you'll want to get a DVD-Rom drive for the laptop too. Again, you can probably get it for under $50. Does everything your CD drive did, which was view regular CDs, but with the DVDROM, you can view movies and read 4.7 gig DVD data disk, thats over 6 CDs worth of content!
You do have a wireless card right? What! Look, just go to Fry's (truely always has best deal on these) and tell them you want the cheapest Wireless-G laptop card they have. If you have a wireless router at home, then get a matching brand, otherwise any brand will do! Many have rebates, so they can cost next to nothing!
One final today, so by 10am I start some of the checkout process.
Sylvia finished putting her outfit together last night for Ashley's wedding. First were the shoes, then found a skirt, then a belt for the skirt, then a 'bolero top'with giant sequin thingies, then a thing to wear under the 'bolero'. Necklance and earrings were already owned! They actually match the belt (beads used). I got a normal 'big' tuxedo.
No movies last night, but watched another episode of TEACHERS. I hope I find the first three seasons DVD while in London. Oh, we booked our trip on Expedia last night. Two roundtrip tickets via Continental and 8 nights at the Bailey's Hotel. Booking the combo saved us around $750 according to Expedia.
