More Recording Space

This is noted for people searching on Google - hope you find me!

Expanding DVR SA 8300HD Acomdata 1TB eSATA puredrive

Okay, he we go.

I got one of these: from Comcast (was Time Warner) and I filled it up with about 41 recordings.

Research on the internet said I could add an eSata drive and get it to use external storage. The recommended one was 500Gb from Western Digital, the MyBook DVR Expander or something like that $199 at BestBuy.

I was hoping eSata was eSata! I found a clearance 2.5" HD enclosure that had USB & eSata and INCLUDED all necessary cable for $14.95. See, most eSata drives don't bring the cables, so that was usually almost $20 for eSata cable - so I saved money buying the extra kit with cable, so I still have a nice drive enclosure for some future project!

At Fry's I got lucky and found a 1TB Acomdata PureDrive(never heard of this brand) for $189. They are referrign to this as a basic drive becuase it doesn't have the stanadard backup software included like on many of the name brands these days. Remember 1TB is 1000GB, so double the storage for about the same price! I hoped it would work. It had eSata, and that was what I wanted!

Brought everything home, hooked it up and nothing noticeable happened. I read that might happen! So I turned off drive and then screen popped up saying a device was disconnect incorrectly! Hey, it knew it was there! So I turned it back on, got a message now asking if I wanted to format it! YES! And in a few seconds and maybe one more on-off, I ended up going from 99% full, to 11% full!

So now I have a little box like this next to my DVR that I may just hide behind it and forget that it is there!
