I recently got back into the social aspect of photography by joining 3 of the local photography clubs. One has a monthly competition using prints, and after the last two meetings I asked one of the competitors which printer he was using, his prints were of a quality I never seemed to get from my Epson 1280, which supports large format up to 13x19 inches. He was using the Canon Pixma 9000 Mark II. I investigated this printer and it has a retail of around $499, currently around $430-450 at the primary photography online vendors (Adorama & BH Photo) with a $100 rebate, putting it around $350 average. When I checked Amazon, there were a bunch of new ones starting around $275. All of those were described as New Unopened Box with UPC removed (for a rebate).
Apparently, there was some nice package deal people recently got involving the Pixma 9000 and those people really didn’t want the printer but enjoyed the combined rebate. Doing a local search on Craigslist, I’m seeing the printer, less barcode, being offered as low as $225, less than half price. This is the route I am taking to acquire this printer that supports up to 13x19 paper, and if you’re willing to explore Craigslist or Amazon, you can probably pick one up under $300 also!
