Travelocity - good and bad!

In APRIL I booked a combo hotel and car for July vacation. Nice hotel plus smallest cheapest car through ALAMO, via Travelocity. Including over $400 in taxes and fees the total was around $1970

Now in June decide instead of smallest car, want the biggest, a mini van. I go to ALAMO website and pretend I am booking now for same time period to see price difference. Over $500

Sadly, I call Travelocity and ask them to upgrade me. Can't do it, its part of package they say. Fine, I'll call ALAMO.

ALAMO says, can't do it, it is a prepaid voucher.

Call Travelocity VIP Traveler services, because the website says I'm a VIP, and go through the same as regular call, but while I was on hold, I open new TRAVELOCITY window on laptop and go through booking the combo today with MiniVan instead of tiny car, to see price difference - new combo price $2043.

So I have the rep cancel the old trip - I lose $35 dollars for cancellation fee, everything else credited back, like $1930. I select the new rebooked trip online for $2043 and saved myself over $400 in upgrading car.

I'm not sure what the lesson is there - but I know there is one!

For curiosity, I check the Hotel and MiniVan seperately and Travelocity saved my about $180 booking as combo!
