Motorcycle Gear Review

I don't know who will find these posting, but if you do, maybe they'll help you with your future purchases.

Starting at my feet, you saw the cool boots below, well, in no time, they started having screws fall out, I guess I was suppossed to tighten all of them before I used them? Would help with some as screw hole was already sctripped! Secondly, bad screw choice, they used rounded head philips, instead of a flat face that would be flush mount. Since the screw stick out near rear hear guards, they were scratching my fairings! Not good. Regardless, in about the 12 time waering them, the zipper handle snapped. They have one year warranty, so sent them back. RIDEGEAR.COM guy told me they are on back order until 7/15/07. So I went with a little more expensive AVG boot. We'll see how those do.

The Pants. I picked up a 2nd hand pair of ebay for $50, bought the new pair for $150. Nothing wrong with second pair, already been through washing maching nicely. Both would benefit from padding in the groin area, so I wear bike shorts with them when long riding...but because I bought sizes big enough to be OVERPANTS, they'll slide off me too qucikly in emergency over the slick shorts. So when I want to do that I now attach them to the jacket with that rear zipper, since my two main jackets are also Joe Rockets! Works for me. My next pair will be a better fitting pair, because I want one pair that wont function as over pants, so the knee protector will be forced into right place regardless of ride/fall. Right now the big ones could feisably shift to below the knee in a crash and not protect it. Does great protection though while riding from rocks and bugs and other schrapnel. Watch ebay for used pair that haven't been crashed!

The Jackets - so far I only have the two Joe Rocket Jackets. Love fit, form and function. I can't believe I got the Corona one for under $60, saving over $100 - thank you Ebay. Alwasy seems to be new and used Joe Rockets on ebay, so find a dealer, find your size and then watch Ebay! With the liners, you stay warm, almost nothing gets through! As mentioned, they attach nicely to pants too!

Gloves - wasted my money! I got these fancy $60 Alpinestars that were already loosing parts first week! They have some grippy pattern on the main two find tips, mine were peeling off the first week. Not a big performance issue. My gloves are nice, but I went with XXL for comfort, but I think I should have stayed with an XL for snugger fit, as they'll strech. I think that was something i overlooked on almost all my gear. Don't buy big and comfortable - buy what fits NEXT to you, but allows movment! I've also read get longer gloves to protect wrist...definately pair #2 will be longer.

Helmet...my Scorpion 400 is doing great. I may want to add a tinted or mirrored face shield because I often see the setting sun when I ride..however I found wearing sun glasses with the faceshield up keeps me a lot cooler on the below 40mph streches.
Newbies - never buy a USED helmet, don't want to explain the physics and such, but basically - NEVER buy a used helmet!
